Vacation? Burglar-Proof your Home!

Getting ready to go to the Bahamas? Or to the tropical islands of Hawaii? Kids are all have their floaters and Hubby has his wet suit? Before excitement is all pumped up, pause for a moment and make sure to burglar-proof your home. Here are some tips:

1. Keep everything locked. Make sure no door or window remains open. A dead lock on the main doors is suggested.

2. Don’t leave the spare key at obvious places (under the door mat, stone, flower pot, etc.).

3. Have a trusted friend or relative come and check the house once a day.

4. Keep one light on… One outside the house and one inside. This will leave an assumption that someone is at home and will boost some hesitations from the thieves.

5. Don’t post anything on social media sites like:

“10 days in the Bamahas!”

“A week off of traffic… just the tropics…”

“Enjoying fresh fruit salad in a white sand beach of Thailand now.”

This will give hints to possible burglars that your home is a weak victim. You can update your Facebook status or tweets after the vacay! Don’t forget to post the pictures too!

6. Make sure your alarm system or CCTV is not defective before leaving.

7. Plant thorny shrubs by the entrance places. Bougainvillaea for example blooms colorful flowers and is also a good distraction tool for lifters on the run.

Now you’re ready and vacation will be worry-free! Enjoy… 🙂
